What to expect

Counselling is a very individual process that can vary a great deal depending on client’s preferences, the goals for counselling, the counsellor, and their approach.

Typically, we would briefly speak on the phone to answer any questions you might have, schedule an appointment, and to get a sense of what brings you to counselling to ensure my services are a good match for you. If I am not able to help you I will strive to connect you to another counsellor or resource. I’m also pleased to have this initial communication by email if that is more convenient for you. A complementary 15 minute consultation is also available.

During our first session we will discuss confidentiality and limitations to confidentiality (such as cases when harm to a child or other immediate safety concerns are disclosed).

If you are seeking counselling for your teen an initial session with only parents attending may be useful depending on the age of the teen and history.

Beyond those basics what counselling looks like for you is collaborative and flexible.
