What to expect
Counselling is a very individual process that can vary a great deal depending on the age of the client, goals for counselling, the counsellor, and their approach.
Typically we would briefly speak on the phone to answer any questions you might have, schedule an appointment, and to get a sense of what brings you to counselling to ensure my services are a good match for you. If they are not I will strive to connect you to another counsellor or resource.
During our first session we will discuss confidentiality and limitations to confidentiality (such as cases when harm to a child or other safety concerns are disclosed).
If you are seeking counselling for your child an initial session with only parents attending may be useful depending on the age of the child and goals of counselling.
Beyond those basics what counselling looks like for you or your child is a collaborative and flexible process.
